Design Thesis | Week 3.1 - ID Kit Discussion
Based on last week’s research into the fields of Concept Design for entertainment preproduction, I have developed a personal design philosophy and mission statement which align my professional goals with my personal values.
Mission Statement
To use my design research and analysis skills to contribute entertainment concepts that are equitable, emotionally communicative, and culturally productive.
Design Philosophy
Definition: I will offer research and visual concept iterations for motion graphics preproduction in the TV/Film industries.
Users: My target users are production studios (more specifically art directors) primarily engaged in the indie/low-budget film industry.
Purpose: The purpose of my services is to ensure that cultural touchpoints such as film and entertainment are effective in their communication of a director/producer's narrative. The "impact" I hope to achieve is to develop cultural touchpoints that are inspiring equitable for impressionable consumers.
Differentiation: I will be able to craft more culturally cognizant designs through my use of design research, not just technical implementation. I will work to understand the user demographics of a specific project before shifting into the visual development phase. By establishing a clear design process, I can operate with autonomy, avoiding excessive project communication.
Value: Because of my investment in cultural research and narrative equity, my designs will contribute to the ethos of a project and will logistically serve a function in the PR of said project. I can provide visuals and worldbuilding assets that satisfy a specific audience and relate directly to the narrative that is being developed, rather than simply relying on pure "cool" aesthetics.
Goals: The success of these solutions would be measured by: the quantitative conversion rate of the final film/video, the organic circulation of the final product measured via SEO and social analytics, and the qualitative assessment of key stakeholders (including the production director, producers, and external demographic-specific users).
Design Philosophy: I use inclusive research and effective communication to create visual storytelling designs that are not only visually appealing but are also culturally functional. Through this process, I aim to help directors and production groups to create effective visual narratives that are equitable, inspiring, and responsible.
